The Goodness of Natural Treatment for Depression:
For
Depression is a state
of extreme sadness. A lot of American adults, and
now even teens, suffer from this kind of mental illness.
Depression can be so severe it can make the person
unable to think straight and commit suicide, in worst
cases.
Treating depression
is done through drugs and dietary supplements. The
substances depressed people take all go by medical
sounding names like L-Tyrosine, L-Phenylalanine, and
other similar amino acid supplements. They can come
in a form of a pill, which can effectively regulate
the depressive state that the mind and body undergoes.
While these are still
considered natural remedies, they, coming in the form
of chemicals, may be a little artificial for the nature
buffs out there. But in any case, here are more natural
ways of combating depression, minus the dependence
on chemical-based drugs and pills.
1. Proper exercise.
Depression and being physically active don't match.
Working out takes your mind off things. There will
be no time to be depressed if you are always on the
move and is doing something. Get your mind occupied
all the time. Make exercise your hobby. Aerobic exercise
is highly advised. Exercising for about 30 minutes
a day does not only give you a healthier body. It
gives you a better mentally as well.
2. Maintain a highly
nutritious diet. Anti-depressant nutrients are mainly
vitamins and minerals. Vitamin B9, particularly folic
acid, is on the top of the list. Foods like cereals
and grains are manufactured to contain certain amounts
of folic acid for a better health. Aside from folic
acid, Vitamin B1 or Thiamine is also advised. There
are Thiamine-fortified breads and pastas that are
available in the market nowadays for public consumption.
Vitamin B6, which is Pyridoxine, is also required.
This one can be found in common foods like meat, egg
yolk, banana, peanuts, and lima beans. Cyanocobamin
and Cobolamin are Vitamin B12, which is also needed,
found in vegetables such as soya, algae, and seaweeds.
Vitamin C, as we all know, can be obtained from citrus
foods and fruits. It is also one of the anti-depressant
vitamins. As for minerals, selenium is advised. Foods
rich in selenium are seafood, chicken, egg, and lean
red meat.
3. Take in herbs.
There are herbs that may replace chemical remedies.
To date, St. John's Wort is the best one yet. Its
extract, although in a pill-like form, is all natural
and has no side effects. About 300 mg is administered
to thrice daily to achieve optimum results. Aside
from St. John's Wort, Ginkgo Biloba is another herb
worth checking out. This one is believed to cure patients
suffering from major depression. It is highly recommended
for elderly people who are or have become resistant
to the normal drug or chemical treatment therapies.
4. Psychotherapy.
This is the professional way of addressing the problem.
It is similar to counseling but it concerns a relatively
deeper emotional and metal problems, as in this case,
depression. Psychotherapy intends to improve a person's
mental health and stability, as well as his behavioral
and emotional problems. A trained psychologist, a
psychiatrist, or similar experts can conduct it. It
involves the use of a variety of psychological techniques
and approaches.
5. Meditation. Meditation
can aid in offsetting depression. Meditation is the
process of calming the mind and putting it a tranquil
state. It is a method wherein a person becomes aware
of his mental condition. And during that phase, he
becomes capable of making choices that could change
his mental and emotional situation toward the right
path. Meditation makes a person relax and let go of
his physical and emotional baggage, which can be depression
in this case.
Depression can now
be treated naturally. Although for those people who
are currently taking regular medications and is benefiting
from it, it is not advisable to make a sudden shift
to these state natural methods. Instead, try to complement
your drugs with all of these. Get the guidance of
your doctor. See if you can slowly reduce on the dosage
of your drugs and move over to these techniques.
Depression can strike
in varying levels. Do not make decisions hastily on
your own. Always follow what your doctor tells you.
Depression is a state where you can come out victorious
if you want. A lot of people have done so already.
